The Brussels summit attended by the presidents and prime ministers of the member states of the European Union (EU) finally approved on Thursday, 10 December 2020 the EU budget for the next 7 years, along with rules of receiving the COVID relief fund worth just over US€ 1.8 trillion. Germany in particular was very active in negotiations, and eventually an agreement was reached even though some member states – namely Poland and Hungary – wanted to exercise their right of veto. In the end this did not happen and the budget negotiations were successful.
